Oliver Perez carried a no-hitter into the 9th inning and Vernon Wells smacked
2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at the ballpark where the SSB SSB Tar Heels beat the
hopeless Dominican Republicans 6 to 2.
Wells had a big day at the plate. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 5th inning and smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 15th of
the season) in the 7th inning. SSB had only 6 hits for the game.
Perez(11-7) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. The left-handed
Perez had his no-hit bid broken up by Jason Bay who doubled with two outs in
the 9th inning. Luke Hudson(4-1) was the losing pitcher.
'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Perez. 'I had good
command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything went
well.'
